Sports Memorabilia refers to items that are collected by people (or fans) relating to a particular sport, event or sporting personality, such as an athlete or a team. This often involves items which are related to the sport, probably autographed.

Many of these items will hold some significance to the collector, either sentimentally or even through its monetary value. These items are quite capable of both holding and increasing in value over time, and can be sold at auctions often for more than the initial purchase value. An example of this is the well known ball that was used to hit a home run in 1998 (by Mark McGwire), which was sold for over a million US Dollars.

Because of the business side to Sports Memorabilia, shops are now dealing in such items, so its even easier now to purchase sports memorabilia. But you should always be on the alert for fakes, with the sports memorabilia a billion dollar market, and with athletes and sports personalities retiring all the time, contracts are taken out between these athletes and legitimate companies to trade their items. Anyone can provide you with 'proof' by giving you a piece of paper but unless it's authenticated by other sources such as by a league or the item is direct from the player, you will never be 100% sure of its authenticity, in short make sure you do your homework.

Talking of shops providing sports memorabilia, you could check out whats available from where through Delvoo.com .
